Google Fax
by Matt Gerchow
Google offers many great services. Unfortunately, there is not a Google fax, at least not without some help. To send a fax through Google, you will need a couple of things. The first is a Google mail (Gmail) account and the second is an online fax service.
While there are a few free services, they are pretty limited in the amount of materials that can be sent and add advertisements to every sheet printed, making their use pretty annoying to the recipient. In addition, most of these services are only for sending faxes and do not let the recipient receive messages from fax machines.
All is not lost
As mentioned previously, there is a way to send and receive Google faxes. The first thing is to add a Gmail account. If you do not already have one, sign up at Gmail.com. There is no charge for the e-mail account and it is very user friendly.
Second, you will need an online fax service, like the one offered through RingCentral. Ringcentral offers several different services, including affordable business phones, mobile service and online fax service. The fax account is what is needed in order to send a Google fax.
Start sending and receiving faxes
Once you have signed up for these two services, it is easy to send and receive faxes. The incoming faxes will be sent to the inbox of the Gmail account. Wherever you have computer access, you simply log into the account and view or print the faxes as needed. Follow the directions at the ringcentral site for sending faxes by e-mail. Now there is no need to head back to the office to send or receive important documents. Everything can be done from the personal computer no matter where you are working today. You will even be able to view faxes on your iPhone, Blackberry or other droid.
